The Local Supervisor

The local supervisor is a faculty member from King Abdulaziz University who acts as an assistant supervisor for the student.

Rights of the Local Supervisor from the University:

  • Supervising each thesis with two study units.
  • The university covers the cost of round-trip travel tickets and provides an assignment allowance for the visit period, in accordance with the university's rules and regulations.

Obligations of the Local Supervisor from the University:

  • The local supervisor is responsible for providing guidance, advice, and support to students in order to facilitate academic progress in the following areas:
    • Planning the research project.
    • Finding relevant literature and resources.
    • Providing research techniques.
  • Maintaining regular contact and accessibility to the student at suitable times.
  • Requesting written drafts of the work and providing critical feedback within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Informing the student of any inadequacies in their progress or failure to reach an acceptable working standard.
  • Agreeing with the student on a meeting schedule, with a minimum of one meeting per month, to discuss relevant issues.
  • Promoting the student's awareness of ethical and legal matters related to research codes of conduct, such as plagiarism.
  • Supervising the research process of the student prescribed by the main external supervisor.
  • Consulting with the student's external supervisor on all matters related to the successful program of study.
  • Assisting the student in overcoming scientific and research difficulties she/he may encounter during the study period.
  • Collaborating with the program's administrative office and the scientific department to provide the necessary materials for the students.
  • Serving the annual seminar held by the student, and subsequently submitting a report to the JSP.
  • Reporting biannually on the student's progress to the student's local department, and to the general supervisor of the Joint Supervision Program.
  • Immediately notifying the JSP and the departments of both universities if the student's efforts prevent submission for the degree.
  • Making annual visits, lasting up to five days, to the External University, once a year, and attending the student's viva voice. Additionally, the local supervisor must submit a visit report to JSP.
